1. Define the purpose of your exchange
The benefits of studying abroad are endless, but it's important to consider your own reasons. So, ask yourself: where did the desire to go on exchange come from ? Do you want to learn a language or develop the skills you have already acquired? Do you want to carry out research in a new environment? Perhaps the intention is to give back to the asia mobile number list global community in the form of volunteer services. Or gain first-hand experience working in an international office through an internship. “Anything is possible, and preparation is the key to a successful study experience”, is therecommendation from the University at Buffalo, a respected institution in the state of New York, in the United States. The important thing is to have a well-defined purpose that can guide you at the beginning of your journey – because, as we will see later, nothing prevents a subsequent correction on the route.
2. And then think about what you would actually like to study
For your expectations to be fully met, the teaching methodology must reflect your current situation and desire to learn. Identify your preferred course and list the institutions that offer it, trying to understand the available programs, modules and their duration. Most schools and universities have representation in exchange agencies and it is worth checking.
An important consideration: no matter what you will study, it is crucial that you understand how your chosen course will be delivered. So, take a look at the way the content is taught (what is the format of the classes? Are there seminars, lectures?), mandatory reading lists and forms of assessment and composition of notes. Some schools even allow students to personalize teaching, mixing modules to earn bonuses – such as universities in the United States that provide complementary subjects from other disciplines to make up their curriculum.
4. Pay attention to opportunities at the destination
Beyond the walls of the school or university, the destination of your exchange may or may not favor your level of learning, immersion and professional placement. Evaluate the sectors that can be explored in terms of employment during or after you complete the course. For example, New Zealand is ideal for those looking to excel in civil engineering and there is demand for professionals in the field. Ireland has a good market for students in the pharmaceutical and health industry. The chosen course, educational institution and city should collaborate to help you grow in your career.
5. Consider the costs
The value of the exchange is directly related to the city where you will live and, therefore, it is essential to consider the general expense involved. When calculating your costs, don't forget to consider everyday expenses such as accommodation, utilities, transport, as well as local currency and exchange rate. Also keep in mind the duration of the course: master's degrees in the United Kingdom and Ireland, for example, usually last just one year, while in countries like Canada and Australia they can take up to two years. Oh, and check whether it is allowed to combine study and part-time work. This way, you can better manage your daily accounts and gain experience.
